I recently had the pleasure of connecting with this sweet and beautiful family while they were visiting Boulder, CO on a family vacation. They were here from Texas and wanted family portraits in the beautiful Colorado scenery! We headed to South Mesa Trailhead for their Boulder, CO Summer Family Session! I knew this location would offer the perfect mixture of breathtaking mountain views and lovely park-like settings.

Boulder, CO Summer Family Session

Our session started out perfect. The couple’s two kids were fun and super playful, which I love!  We were able to capture so many wonderful images while we were at this first spot on the trail.  Once we finished up on the trail, we began to walk along to our next location at South Mesa Trailhead, a clearing in a field that provides an epic view of the Flatirons as a backdrop. As we started walking, I felt the first drop of rain. I quickly pulled out my phone to check the radar, and sure enough, it was about to downpour.

I alerted the family that we should run back to the parking lot which wasn’t too far away, thankfully! We started running and made it to a little tree canopy before it really started coming down. The trees were doing a good job protecting us from most of the rain so we decided to stay there under the trees. We also knew that running to our cars now would for sure make us look drenched for the remainder of the session. The radar indicated that the heavy rain would only last 5-7 minutes. The Gooding family was great at going with the flow and were not stressed at all. The kids did great and never seemed to mind the rain!

The rain finally stopped and we made our way back to our location. The second half of our session was just as great as the first! We had a great time! I kept track of the radar periodically, as I could see more rain coming. It held off just enough for me to get the most amazing photos of this family of four.  The mountain backdrop never gets old! As soon as I finished the last shot, I could see the rain coming in over the mountains. I told the family we needed to leave right away to avoid the rain rolling in. We made it back to our cars just in time before it down poured again.

Looking at these photos, you would never know we encountered two different rain storms! Their little girl was the cutest and had such funny and cute expressions! I could tell in the short amount of time I spent with this family, how close they are. The bond between all of them was evident. I am so grateful that the rain held off enough for us to capture these beautiful family memories! I hope these images serve as a beautiful keepsake in the years to come during this stage of life, and the wonderful memories made on their summer vacation to scenic Colorado landscape.
