Fall Extended Family Session

I love capturing extended families. Family is such an important part of my life and I never want to take it for granted. It’s fun to look back on pictures with my kids and see the memories we have created, both with our immediate family and with their grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, etc. Needless to say, when Erin reached out to me about capturing her whole family, my answer was ABSOLUTELY! Their fall extended family session consisted of Erin’s immediate family, her parents, and her three other siblings and their families.

This big group was so much fun! In the same way I enjoy looking at pictures with my kids, it brings me great joy knowing this family will have these timeless memories to look back on in the years to come. Besides having memories at your fingertips, these sessions are even more important when you have several young kids. We all know how quickly children grow and change, sometimes in just a year’s time. These images are portals to the past. Pictures allow us to relive not just a specific moment, but whole seasons of life!

When shooting extended family sessions I ALWAYS get every combo! The whole family together, grandparents with their kids, each individual family as a whole, mom with her kids, dad with kids, siblings together, cousins all together, adult brothers and sisters together-whatever the photo combination is, I will be sure to capture it for you!

Fall Extended Family Session

I always suggest having a game plan when shooting family sessions, but especially with larger extended family groups.  This is important as you never know how long the kids will last. I always try to knock out the photos centered around the kids first! I didn’t need to worry about much with the Wise family though! They were on top of their game!

We took so many pictures and still managed to be totally done in 30 minutes. While they had more time in their session, we didn’t need it. While some may think these sessions would go on forever and that their kids might not be able to handle it, that is not the case!  As long as a photographer has a game plan coming in, they can and should be very efficient.

With spring at our doorstep and summertime around the corner, now is the perfect time to start thinking about scheduling your family photos! Maybe you and your family will be sharing a vacation with family, or opening your home to family over one of the summer holidays, whatever the case may be, it isn’t too late to schedule your extended family session! If you are interested in capturing your family’s memories, I’d love to hear from you! Contact me today to start a conversation
