There was something very meaningful about photographing this Santa session at Sugarhill Studio in Longmont, Colorado. The setup this year was simple on purpose—soft Christmas touches, nice lighting, and a quiet space where families could slow down. Every child received a small gift from Santa, then enjoyed some milk and cookies. The best part was the pace. No long lines. No crowd of parents watching. Just personal, one-on-one time with Santa where kids could settle in, talk, laugh, and take their time. It ended up being one of my favorite reflections from a simple session—a reminder that the quiet, intentional choices are often the ones that feel the most magical.
How Reflections From a Simple Session Helped Me See My Year More Clearly
As I wrapped up this round of minis, I found myself reflecting on how much this year has stretched me. My business grew in ways I didn’t expect, not just in bookings but in confidence and clarity. I stepped into coaching and discovered how much I love helping newer photographers find their footing. Somewhere along the way, I realized I’m not only building a photography business—I’m building a community. Sessions like this remind me why I care so much about creating calm, meaningful experiences for families and sharing what I’ve learned with others.
Remembering What Matters Most in This Work
This day with Santa also gave me space to think about how much joy this work still brings me. Not just the photos, but the connection and the slower pace of moments like these. It’s the same heart behind why I’ve started coaching newer photographers. I want them to feel supported as they grow and to know there’s room to build a business that feels steady and meaningful. This year showed me that growth doesn’t always look big or flashy. Sometimes it looks like choosing peace, choosing intention, and choosing simple moments that matter most.
