Fellow family photographers, I’ve got some handy tips for you regarding considerations when location scouting. First off, let’s talk about lighting. You need to determine what would provide good lighting for the time of day you want to shoot. Find out if there is open shade for you to do longer minis because as the photographer you won’t have to worry about the sun being so high. This will help avoid harsh shadows and ensure everyone looks their best.

Considerations when Location Scouting

Another important consideration is accessibility. It’s crucial to choose locations that are easy for everyone to reach. Consider parents with strollers or anyone with mobility needs. Look for places with nearby parking and straightforward paths to your shooting spot. Also, don’t forget about it being ADA accessible, especially if you’re planning quick mini sessions. Ensuring accessibility not only enhances the experience for your clients but also demonstrates inclusivity and respect for all individuals participating in the photo session.

Lastly, always check on permits required and get the appropriate approval for each location before your session. Permits should be sorted out in advance. Additionally, consider reaching out to local authorities or park management for any specific guidelines or restrictions that may apply to your chosen locations. And don’t forget to leverage the diverse seasons of Northern Colorado to add depth and variety to your photography. From the vibrant blooms of spring to the golden hues of autumn, each season offers a unique backdrop for capturing unforgettable moments. Embrace the changing landscapes and let the natural beauty of Colorado enhance the storytelling in your photos. Happy shooting, everyone!
