Photographing a newborn is an incredible privilege, and I understand the immense trust parents place in me to capture their precious memories. Recently, we had the pleasure of hosting a newborn session at Sugarhill Studio in Longmont, Colorado. While I also offer in-home sessions, there are some important considerations to keep in mind when preparing for a session away from home. Whether at home or in a studio, the following newborn session preparation tips can help make things flow more smoothly.
Helpful Newborn Session Preparation Tips
Firstly, it is crucial to schedule the session in advance and keep me informed about the baby’s arrival. Ideally, newborns are photographed within the first two weeks of their birth, so it’s best to be prepared ahead of time. As for clothing, I recommend neutral colors for a timeless look, which is what I typically swaddle them in. Additionally, the baby should be fed and changed before the session. Bringing extra items such as diapers, wipes, burp clothes, or a pacifier can also be helpful, as I strive to make these sessions as stress-free as possible for both the baby and parents.
Gilmore Family at Sugarhill Studio in Longmont, CO
My recent newborn session with Baby Gilmore was an absolute dream. Despite being almost two weeks old, she impressively stayed awake the entire time! Her parents, Debbie and Sean, love outdoor activities like hiking and camping, and I love to envision them doing these things as a family unit. Congratulations to the Gilmore family on your new little bundle of joy!
