Something I always do—whether it’s a new family or one I’ve worked with before—is really focus on communication. I’ve shot at Sugarhill Studio in Longmont more times than I can count, and every session still feels fresh because each family is different. What stays the same is how important it is to make people feel comfortable and seen. From the first email to the final gallery, I’m always working to build trust and keep things easy and relaxed. During this session, the sibling giggles and genuine smiles were just another sweet reminder that great photos start with great connection. And as with all my Personality Portrait sessions, every image is delivered in both color and black & white—because sometimes a moment just hits different in monochrome.

Before the shoot, I always make sure to connect with families ahead of time—usually through email and that handy little pre-session questionnaire I send out. It gives me a feel for their vibe, what they’re hoping for, and how their kids tick. That way, when they show up, they already feel seen and taken care of. During the session, I use all those little details to chat with the kids, gently guide them with prompts, and create space for natural sibling moments to unfold. It’s low-pressure and laid-back—and honestly, that’s when the magic happens.
Effective Communication After the Session
And honestly, the follow-up is just as important to me as the shoot itself. I always send a quick thank-you email and a little sneak peek the same day because I know how exciting it is to get that first glimpse. It keeps the good vibes going and makes it easy for families to share their experience with friends. Staying clear, friendly, and consistent in communication—before, during, and after the session—is a big part of how I build real relationships with my clients. It’s not just good for the heart; it’s also how my business grows, one happy family at a time.
