Newborn sleeps on her back and poses for Catherine Chamberlain Photography

Every child is unique, but it is fascinating to see how a child can exhibit different traits and characteristics due to their birth order. Second-born children tend to be more laid-back, probably because they need to learn to adapt to the wants and need of their sibling. They can also be competitive. This may be because they feel the need to match their sibling’s accomplishments or to stand out in their own way. Because these second-born children are use to sharing attention with their sibling, they are often more social and outgoing. Of course, these are just generalizations, and again, every child is unique. This indoor newborn photo session showed that no matter what order you were born into in this family, you are equally valued and adored.

Light and Airy Indoor Newborn Photo Session

With these clients I was able to capture their newborn photos in the comfort of their lovely home. The Esselmans have two children—a sweet newborn girl and an lively two-year old boy. They also have a beloved dog named Jetta. Mallory is taking a few months of maternity leave to be home with her children, and Michael works from home. Originally from the Midwest, they moved here to Colorado last July. They love it because of the opportunity to engage in so many outdoor activities as a couple and now as a family as well. Mallory and Michael both did running in college, so this outdoorsy lifestyle is a perfect fit for them.

Newborn Photoshoot with Catherine Chamberlain Photography

Newborn photoshoots tend to be very calm and move at the pace of the baby. This little newborn did very well at just 12 days old. She was awake most of the time, and I was able to get some darling shots. Her older brother was unsure of the process, but snacks helped to keep his attention. (I always have a trick up my sleeve to helps kids during an unfamiliar photoshoot.)

Thank you to the Esselman Family! It was truly a pleasure to be invited into your home. I don’t ever take for granted being able to share your sacred space, your safe haven. I’m so glad we could work together to capture this precious time in your life. The days (especially the nights) are often long, but the months and years go fast. I hope you will treasure these memories for many, many years to come. Congratulations on your growing family!
