I had a wonderful time capturing the Loi family for their Boulder, CO Family Session at South Boulder Creek Trailhead! Our families are good friends, and our kids love playing together and we love hanging out with them. Needless to say, I was thrilled when Josephine reached out to schedule family portraits.
This session was extra special because Josephine’s mom was visiting from Indonesia! It made me so happy to know that we were able to capture their sweet family together and that they will have these memories with her to look back on. That is what I love most about photos! They become treasured mementos that are passed down through generations. I love the thought of Josephine’s kids looking through these photos one day and remembering that time their grandma visited them.
Boulder, CO Family Session
Josephine told me that they really wanted a mountain backdrop for their family photos! South Boulder Creek Trailhead delivered the perfect open space for pictures with an absolutely stunning view of the mountains in the background! She also asked if we could shoot mid morning so their kids could be at their best for photos. I was more than happy to accommodate a mid morning session! In addition to capturing timeless images, my priority is always to create the best possible outcome for the children and overall experience for each family!
Many know that the hour or so surrounding the sunrise and the golden hour before sunset are the best times for photos. During those times the light is the softest, making skin look amazing. However, with young children, these times are often not possible. I struggle to make it work with two little ones during these times too! However, just because it isn’t the “perfect time” doesn’t mean pictures can’t be AMAZING!
I would much rather have kids be at their happiest and get great photos, over capturing the “perfect” light and risking a grumpy, overtired kid. The golden hour isn’t your only chance to capture good photos. You absolutely can achieve beautiful, amazing photos at other times of the day! If your photographer understands light and how to work with it, any time of the day can be just as beautiful. The Loi’s family photos are proof of that! Their photos are gorgeous! More than that though, the kids had a blast running around, laughing, and just being kids!
